Volume II of the Bhagavad Gita elevates dharma and arouses devotion to support the practical teachings of Volume I. When we understand that billions of universes with uncountable forms are strung on one God, like pearls on a thread, we also see that individual self-interested crises are scarcely crucial. In this volume Krishna, the higher consciousness principle within all sentient beings, links devotion to concentration, even-mindedness, and knowledge. If these are too difficult to achieve at first, Krishna counsels that relinquishing the fruits of action will generate them in time.
